WORLD AIDS DAY:DECEMBER 1ST
Today is actually WORLD AIDS DAY! A day when people are given the opportunity to unite and fight against this huge pandemic that has eaten deep into our society-HIV/AIDS..
This World AIDS day is the first ever global health day, held for the first time in 1998.
World AIDS Day is important because it reminds the public and Government that HIV has not gone away – there is still a vital need to raise money, increase awareness, fight prejudice and improve education.(www.worldAIDSday.org).
It is said that people living with the disease do not really die as a result of the disease but the stigmatization and isolation they face...
People living with HIV are not to be abandoned, they are humans too....it isn't the end of the world for them..Yes, there is no known cure but there is treatment for it, so it doesn't go into the fatal stage.. while we join hands to create awareness, we should take note of these facts:
- There are only three ways of contacting HIV-UNPROTECTED SEX, SHARING NEEDLES AND SHARP OBJECTS and MOTHER TO CHILD TRANSMISSION.
- In the U.K, only 0.3% of people with HIV develop AIDS and even when they are treated and they recover they can go back to having just HIV.
- If you are on effective HIV treatment, you are not infectious.
- With effective HIV treatment, a mother who is HIV positive can give birth without passing it on.
RETHINK HIV...discard all outdated stereotypes and embrace the new world..
This shouldn't be done only on the 1st of December but every blessed day..
speak to people about..lets join hands to create a desirable society filled with love....
